Idea Remix: meta-journalism site, where trusted individuals (such as Sonya) put up their own rankings of various sources/journalists/editors/etc. Maybe could build a standard template for it, to make it easy for contributors to use. Then, you can choose your authority to trust.

those are issues that effect every person alive now (and every unborn person in the future forever) where the worst case scenario (i.e. the maximum possible impact) is total annihilation of human civilization.

Most people outside of active hurricane zones don't feel like their lives are impacted by climate change on a day-to-day basis. And most people definitely wouldn't be thinking about nuclear proliferation, especially considering there's almost nothing they can do about it.
