Absolutely; I grew up rather Catholic. tlThat's why I find pre-Church Christianity and the grimoires so interesting, they radically subvert the Judeo-Christian narrative.

What's the difference between Grimoires and plain magic books?

When I use the term I'm talking specifically about historical documents. They're often culled from museum's manuscript collections. Basically there's been an underground trade of occult texts since we'll before the common era and many of them are being reprinted now.

They tend to reflect their time and culture. I'm currently looking at a collection of documents from Elizabethan England; there are equivalent manuals from Germany, Persia, France and the Graeco-Egyptian world, each separated centuries apart.

The modern equivalent would be talismanic publishing, where great care is put into the production and editing of the text, which is assembled under specific conditions with specific materials.

These are books as magical objects; one of the leading talismanic publishers is
@scarletimprint which is primarily run by Peter Grey and Alkistis Dimech; they are both very active magicians and oversee the lion's share of production choices.1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

There are others like
@avalonia but this is essentially the fuel of the modern occult revival; the rediscovery of historic texts with the added benefit of historical context and increased anthropolical knowledge.1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -
Gordon White would also include the growing fields of psi, ufo and psychedelic research, which I have not studied but am not opposed to.

Psi an Ufology are firmly paranormal. Psychedelic science is mostly mainstream (besides the legal situation anyway) pharmacology, psychotherapy, and psychology. The shamanic traditions are kinda bridging the gap but I hesitate to call shamanism paranormal.
