I mean, most intelligent people's problem with HBD isn't the existence of biodiversity. The issue is that the HBD community uses biodiversity as a motte-and-bailey to justify their biodeterminist ethics and corresponding policy suggestions.

What tactics does this justify, and what intelligent people are you talking about

what is "this"? and by intelligent people I mean myself + others who don't speak out of fear of being conflated with an ethical biodeterminist

I guess I don't understand who's who in this if being against it along the axis u have in mind would get someone labeled a biodeterminist

all I can say is there's a qualitative ethical (and likely conceptual) difference at work between geneticists/biologists and HBD enthusiasts

I feel like I don't know which specific people you have in mind and it seems abt that and it would probably be unproductive to just start naming names in public thread so I dunno

I'm speaking purely on the basis of irl interactions I've had with both working biologists and active HBD advocates, so I agree it'd be quite unproductive to name names.

it's legitimately hard to not read "HBD" in a bio as a smug fig leaf over "I believe I can read everything I need to know about somebody from their skin color as long as that color isn't white, in flagrant disregard of sensitive dependence on initial conditions"

Path dependency is so overwhelming of a force that reasoning about genetics w.r.t social status and attainment is nearly impossible to do meaningfully on the group level. It sorta works (with deep flaws) for individuals if limited to specific Gene linked traits with good metrics
