just took a lil gender roles test https://www.idrlabs.com/gender/test.php (h/t @estnihil) and it's probably bullshit like all personality tests but it confirmed my priors so why notpic.twitter.com/Q7grfUaRkg

yeah, dissonance is revealing! some questions I came up with, for reflection: - what sets our internal compass of gendered trait norms? - what tools do we use as mirrors for our behavior? - how might we adjust our self-maps to better track the territory?
For me: - I don't consume media so my gender expectations come via friends. I have mostly male friends/coworkers, so I'm likely pushed toward "male is standard." - I don't have good tools to get outside perspectives on my behavior... perhaps relates to knowing mostly men...
Perhaps a good technique for adjusting my self-map would be to discuss myself/my friends more openly and ask people explicitly for feedback. My friends rarely offer feedback unsolicited (which I appreciate), but I assume I could get decent quality information if I ask directly.
