Also, yes, on reflection this applies if the model has been adopted as a system of personal development, but if not, presumably it retains its value as a descriptor rather than a truth-giver… Why do you think it would it become a shadow or echo, rather than ‘one among many’?

"one among many" == shadow == echo. that's three different ways of saying the same thing. we can use echos to discern the shape of reality but we shouldn't conflate them with reality itself. just a pattern that shows us aspects of reality. that said, sonar is really useful.

"one among many" in particular is a good way to find commonality and differences. I'm reminded of composite images of, e.g., many faces blended together to form an aggregate "average person" face. that's commonality finding. difference finding even more interesting imo.

I like that analogy a lot! It reflects the nebulosity of systems much better than structured analogies. It’s really good.

Yes, nicely put! I would say it takes relative value as a system, maybe still useful to some, less to others…depending on preference/importance in personal history. Is that how you see it? This mirrors claims of various Enlightenment systems too, was that intentional?
-
My view is that relative value (meaning contextual appropriateness and ease of use) is still incredibly important. I wasn't thinking explicitly about any Enlightenment systems when I wrote this but considering what else I've been reading I'm sure it was in my unconscious mind.
