She was stone cold sober. She had a medical condition. They blocked the nerve but her brain still insisted her head itched. It could have been psychosomatic but a) she did it IN HER SLEEP and b) "psychosomatic" does not mean "fake."
I myself, because we all think our fields of expertise are the appropriate ones to apply, wondered if they had tried hypnotherapy, since short of vaporizing part of her brain there weren't a lot of physical treatment options left.
If it was psychosomatic, that would literally have been her only hope, since I don't know that CBT is very effective on people who are not conscious.
