agree with you 100% that it's a very severe category error to automatically lump together liberation and economic utility, even though those things sometimes co-occur.
women's reproductive liberation had enormous economic utility to be sure. that made it an easy sell technocrats who promoted it ultimately though women's reproductive liberation is real liberation and worthwhile for it's own sake, and would be even without the economic utility
