it is unethical to perform a wrong action. it is also unethical to break the social contract instantiated in a democratic popular referendum. resignation preserves personal integrity. presumably a different person will execute ~A anyway. that's the price you pay for democracy.

the justification for action to preserve personal integrity is that it has signaling value for potential future efforts to mitigate the harm of ~A, and to engage in organizing to repeal ~A and/or win the vote for A at the next opportunity.
