they'd be more likely to call it "gay" which in their usage doesn't really mean homosexual, but more like "not matching our notions of acceptable male identity", and a lot of homosexual men are also "gay" in that sense
and what about when they call a man "gay" because they think he isn't cool? examine this a little deeper. why did they even start using that slang in the first place?

I have examined it deeper; I just disagree :) Certainly started as a derogatory remark, but language and meanings change, over time. My point is that it is used just as frequently regardless of gender/sexuality. It isn't used to emasculate; if anything, it's a term of endearment
