emphasis on quasi. they act clannish but a real clan would have the authority to expel or punish extremists. the affiliations now are too loose and too ungovernable to count as a true clan. it's not clannishness you're seeing, it's ideological possession.
Yes. That is a difference. We can't kick them out. We have to use our words more. And, yes, it's fair to emphasize the "quasi". I'm also willing to admit that there's some ideology in the mix, but I don't think that's the driving force.

I've done it with radical SJWs. It matters how you do it. Try asking them to share how they came to their views, and then ask them to help you reconcile their views with whatever data you're relying on.
Seduction, dialectic, dialogue. Level up in speechcraft, take an interest in their point of view, and engage them as individuals. It's easy in-person and one-on-one.
