In my experience the visual programming languages always approached it ass-backwardsly, by thinking "oh users just want to put legos together". What users really want is a debugging printf on every line, for free, and to always rerun after every change.

TBH I kind of want lego-ey stuff, but not ~~too~~ literally. Thing is, whatever I do, programs, conversations with people, I see it as a kind of nebulous flowchart in my mind, so taking that into say python code is an extra cognitive step.

I mean, there is a place for lego-y stuff. But legos address a completely different need than Excel does.
