Honor culture and freedom of speech don't mix very well.
honor culture is far too polite a label. should call it shame culture.

That's an interesting thought. I'm not sure what I think of it off hand. Shame is a huge part of it, but it also seems you might be leaving some of the good parts out. Before the Enlightenment, honor culture was pretty much all anybody had.

Before the enlightenment lords had honor and peasants were disposable so beneath the possibility of having honor.
