I know the whole goddamn world consented to plugging in to a pervasive surveillance and marketing apparatus. I know nobody ever forced them to do it. I'm unsurprised that most people have such low regard for their own privacy, security, autonomy, and liberty.

Facebook is a bad product. It's the apotheosis of the entire project of thought control through social pressure that has typified the late stage capitalist neoliberal world order. Facebook has intensified it so much as to become coercive. Not ok.

Twitter has problems too but, for me anyway, I've found it MUCH more possible to use the service and engage with it in ways that are useful to me without sacrificing as much as FB demands.

the fact that most of my follows and followers are anons is encouraging. I use my given name as a way to enforce a kind of discipline about my own behavior here and that works for me. I think communities where the median user is anon are healthier in general.

pseudon, I think, is more correct - a persistent handle that establishes a track record of posts.

yes, and I thoroughly enjoy consistent pseudons, the best people imo. but Twitter absolutely does allow people to be full anons (alts, name changes, etc.) if they desire.
