neither one of those is the point. the 2nd amendment really is about resisting tyrannical government. krang is throwing shade cuz I guess his audience eats that up but he's not wrong about what the premise of 2A is.

but hes saying ppl who buy guns do it primarily to overthrow the gov, when its easy to think of other reasons of the top of my head there is diff between justification for amendment and why ppl buy things

that's true. I suspect the majority of gun sales are to "cuz I like it" hobbyists. I also suspect that the majority of guns are sold to people who already own guns, buying more guns. wish I was better at producing data on command :/

my mother bought a gun just because she lives alone and ppl break into other houses in that neighborhood and some ppl have died I imagine this is a common enough reason ppl buy themselves guns

probably is but it really makes me wonder how prepared a people are to shoot and (probably) kill someone. also makes me wonder how thoroughly people think through the consequences. what if there's 2 of them? what if they're armed too but wouldn't draw unless you do?

anyway, that's kind of a distraction. a really good door lock or a really big dog are probably better for home protection. the "well-regulated militia" clause was supposed to mean something too. the vision was for a society where weapons training as civic duty was a thing.
