I'm getting the feeling I need to read Jordan Peterson just to find out what all the commotion is about.

I mean the guy's suddenly everywhere and seems difficult to get a read on.

I was cringing my way to the same conclusion...until I heard the Sam Harris interview. Highly recommended. He insists that “Darwinian truth” (adaptive == true) >> empirical truth, because empiricism —> nihilism. i.e. he got stuck at 4.5 and retreated.

the Sam Harris interview is not a good example of the man's work. it was mostly an example of poor communication where the two of them couldn't decide what they wanted to really talk about so argued stupidly for an hour.

I disagree with you that Peterson has retreated back to stage 4 though. I think Harris is stuck there and that's one of the reasons Peterson had trouble talking to him about "truth". Sam's stage 4 strict rationalist empiricism vs. Peterson's stage 5 contextual symbolic truth.

That makes sense, in that throwing stage 5 type thought into public discourse ought to lead to chaos and a whole lot of rorsaching.

yeah, it's hard to communicate even to receptive audiences let alone trying to do it in public with detractors interjecting
