I'm getting the feeling I need to read Jordan Peterson just to find out what all the commotion is about.

That makes sense, in that throwing stage 5 type thought into public discourse ought to lead to chaos and a whole lot of rorsaching.
-
yeah, it's hard to communicate even to receptive audiences let alone trying to do it in public with detractors interjecting

Agree that Harris is stuck at four, but I don’t see how JB can be at five while insisting on the premise that there has to be an ultimate system of thought framing all others. I fear I need to listen to that horribly awkward exchange again to pull the exact quote.

Peterson has strong aesthetic preferences for Christian symbology. He uses the semiotics of his native culture to express himself. His ideas could translate to other symbol systems too though. His idea of an "ultimate" system is more like a meta-system.
-
Yeah, I like Jung, and have no aesthetic objections to the symbology, or even his “Darwinian” conception of truth. I do strongly object to his repeated insistence that there has to be one (meta-)system containing all others. Strange loops are real and relevant to epistemology!

I find JP insightful and made coherent a lot of my own views. Not a fan of the interp of stories. Seems arbitrary. Maybe it doesn't matter if it works but can be abused to justify just about any pov. He tends to dwell hard into this but I like the evo/culture fitness talks better
