If I may ask, was it the stack overflow slapfight or the "totally not religious view of whiteness" slapfight? ^_^
actually was the thing about deaf communities and cochlear implant controversy. I agree with your position but the guy who disagreed with you was playing nice and you really weren't.

Fair but honestly, I pmuch can't play nice or even marginally respectful with "muh natural course" / "muh preservation of exotic community values by intentionally hobbling children" types, just like I'm not going to play nice with (female and male) circumcision advocates.
-
I mean, I think cochlear implants for hearing enhancement in normal people is something worth R&D so you don't have to convince me of your side. I just didn't think that guy deserved the beatdown, basically. A lot of your targets do, but he didn't.
-
I just think that denying people who will otherwise suffer capability extent loss a procedure to preserve a motherfucking cow-moonity is over ~0,9 Mengeles evil, and I generally don't play nice with over 0,45 Mengeles even if they're very polite.
-
denying treatment to "preserve community" is IMHO above and beyond baseline everyday "insurance bloodsucking" or "gov $ embellishment from critical funds" evil and straight up actual IRL "super-villain" evil.
-
you may be right about that but internet beatdowns won't persuade him or anyone reading the convo that you're right. out of purely pragmatic concerns, why not just dip out and try to make your case to a receptive audience?
-
A good point. But just as with TERFs, I think that it's a "platonic disconnect" (a fundamental value difference) so there is very little fence sitters. I do agree that maybe dragging him more subtly instead of pretty much calling him hitler would have been better option.
