how did they build those lighthouses that get bombarded by huge waves
they weren't nearly as close to the shore when they built them

that doesn't make sense, you put lighthouses near where the waves break to warn of danger

coastal erosion. those big waves? they cause a lot of it. 100 year old lighthouse might have been a solid 50 meters further away from the shore when it was built.
