find it funny that "qualia" is a really popular term among rationalists despite how most of them think consciousness is an illusion like, qualia were introduced as a philosophical argument against that kind of dismissal

no, it's also qualia they deny they affirm consciousness exists, but believe the subjective experience is an "illusion". e.g. daniel dennett.
-
Dennett has argued against "the hard problem" by denying that there's any "there" there, but his position is among the most extreme in that group. He may also have a non-conventional notion of what is meant by illusion.
-
that's possible I still feel that most are intrinsically ignoring the Hard Problem via Yudkowsky arguments versus p-zombies. It's not that they are arguing against it, it's that they fail to even understand it's A Thing. Which makes me paranoid they really are p-zombies
-
imo they should all start taking better drugs
-
yeah i feel like I changed my mind about eliminative materialism via intense depersonalisation (mental illness not drugs). psychedelics probably have a similar effect in terms of letting people understand the divide between experience and Outside
