I have a hard time convincing myself that the presence of alternatives can meaningfully change prior moral judgments. That the alternative might be better should not automatically make the thing worse than it would be without the alternative.
That doesn't mean we shouldn't choose the better option, of course.

I do see an important distinction between positive vs negative choice in this type of question though. The better alternative has to be also taking action rather than just not doing anything.
