So can a nematode So can a slightly nondeterministic robot. Unless by "choice" you mean "some kind of magical act of higher inspiration unbound from analyzing your state, environment, and effects of possible randomness sources in your apparatus" https://twitter.com/NormieGardener/status/969944446220603393 …

I don't know what you mean by "choice" (I'm not a telepath!) but all evidence points to "something silly that does not - and likely can not - exist" Nematode is as good example as any (unless you believe earthworms or WBs are super-magical lol) https://twitter.com/NormieGardener/status/969951660071145474 …

So far the only "evidence" that you offer is allegations of your "lived experience". That's rather unimpressive evidence. I know a dude who claims "being abducted by grey aliens" is part of his lived experience. Doesn't mean grey alien invaders exist https://twitter.com/NormieGardener/status/969976706781122564 …

As far as I am concerned, I don't see any fundamental difference between me "choosing", nematodes "choosing", and some piece of software "choosing" You seem to imply my "choosing" is "special" I find that hilarious and silly. https://twitter.com/NormieGardener/status/969979747777249280 …

how do you feel about, as an alternative to "free will is an illusion", rather "everything is conscious and free-willed, to at least some degree"?

It seems implausible after some fuzzy boundary (conscious atoms? electrons? lol), but I don't particularly mind extending free will to slime molds, nematodes, frogs, MTK-based phones and badly written python programs lol

right, the entire idea is to throw out the implausible boundary where the "magic" happens. no boundary, a full continuum of consciousness where every system that has agency (even primitive nematode or hard drive notions of agency) is in some sense conscious.

under this rubric, human consciousness is interesting only in its degree. lots of other vertebrates seem to have a very comparable degree of consciousness as humans. can easily imagine things with greater degree than humans as well.
