I don't normally comment on US gun stuff, 'cos not my circus, not my monkeys, but if the NRA had any sense they would be trying to come up with some solutions that are acceptable to both sides. Otherwise all the solutions will be unacceptable to them, and one will get picked.

they have a solution in mind: nothing. they advocate doing nothing (or repealing existing regulations). they have successfully navigated every previous mass-shooting gun control debate with this strategy.

and they get away with this politically because of gerrymandered districts in deep red states where all they have to do for leverage is threaten a to fund a primary challenge on the right of the sitting house rep who votes against them.

it's broken democracy. this allows for a particularly nasty lobbying agency to apply meaningful pressure by appealing to as little as 5% of the electorate.
