That's like, the common thread for all the anime I enjoy. The QT island girls are actually the remnants of a super advanced civilization and modern society is a bunch of boring assholes with an inherently barbaric culture.

Yes. As is Macross and Gunbuster. Watching Neo-Ranga now, they appear to be going with the "Ancient stone statue of this island's guardian deity is really a giant robot." At this point I'm half convinced world war two was an attempt to secure the south pacific's giant robots.
