Why is anime trying to convince me that Okanawans are the strongest people in the world, and that modern Japan made a mistake when they converted to Buddhism and capitalism instead of worshiping ancient alien kaiju bioweapons?

Yes. As is Macross and Gunbuster. Watching Neo-Ranga now, they appear to be going with the "Ancient stone statue of this island's guardian deity is really a giant robot." At this point I'm half convinced world war two was an attempt to secure the south pacific's giant robots.

Japan actually dosn't actually know how to make mechs, the real super robot technology comes from Indonesia or something.
-
clearly that's wrong. it's like Apple (design) and Foxconn (fabrication). Japan obsessively designs mechs. Actually fabbing them is for Okinawans, or it's an archaeological dig or something.

In neo ranga, the JSDF HAS mechs, but they are more or less useless against ancient technology.

havent seen it yet, will check it out

It's pretty much peak mid 90s trippy subversive Kaiju anime. Three girls become the "kings" of some obscure south pacific island, and it's guardian deity follows them back to Tokyo, where the military industrial complex reacts as expected.

IDK why ancient alien bio-mecha was so popular in the 90s. Evangelion was neither the first nor the last.

I'm told that Brave Raideen is the originator of this troupe. Directed by Tomino no less.
