every 'anti-anti-consumerist' argument characterizes anti-consumerism as 'not liking when people buy things'. it's not an impressive rhetorical move and if i thought that was what anti-consumerism was, i'd think it was stupid too

eh, yes and no, if we want to be srsly materialist abt it loyalty to the tribal "brand" may be more rational than to a commercial brand just bc the tribe is the only game in town for most all material needs/wants & the co is one among competitors to provide one among many goods

there are plenty of really shallow and dumb reasons to be anti-consumerist but I gotta admit I do have some sympathy for the idea there's sth sad about people working up self-abasing levels of intense fealty to sth basically expendable
