there's a lot of outrageous stuff out there, and Twitter gives you the ability to talk back directly to someone being outrageous. Takes a lot of discipline to not do it. Nobody is persuaded to change their evil ways by being ragged on in public. They just build the walls higher.

being outrageous does, however, get a lot of attention quickly. if you have set up your life/career so that negative attention is good for you then being as outrageous as possible is to your benefit. You can even become POTUS this way!

feeding off of negative attention is very very toxic though. I can't imagine what the inner life of those people is like. How do they not just cry themselves to sleep every night? Maybe they do. We don't get to see them in private, when they have to take off the outrage mask.

Imagine being the sister or daughter of a man famous for calling women "whores". Imagine being the father or brother of a woman famous for saying "all men are trash". This stuff has got to take a toll.
