today is a good day to remember that the point of Those Who Walk Away From Omelas isn't to provide squishy liberals a fantasy that they'd be one of the ones who walk away, as i saw claimed in one review that thought itself immensely clever

we never really have a choice between comfort and moral righteousness but we comfort ourselves by imagining that we can choose moral righteousness if we really mean to, though we never do
