Have you DIYed something from Home Depot level materials that most people buy? Something essential and important, not artisan crapjects (eg. a house, a car, a computer, plumbing or electrical system...) What was it and was it financially worth it? (not spiritually)

what counts as Home Depot level materials for computer stuff? For the last 15 years or so I've hand-assembled my desktop computers at home from parts bought from newegg (or similar). Does that count? It feels a lot easier than like, motorcycle repair. Borderline crapject.

Anyway, financially worth it to the tune of about 25% lower price compared to having the machine assembled by a vendor, but that's not exactly big bucks, few hundred once every couple of years.
