Have you DIYed something from Home Depot level materials that most people buy? Something essential and important, not artisan crapjects (eg. a house, a car, a computer, plumbing or electrical system...) What was it and was it financially worth it? (not spiritually)

Anyway, financially worth it to the tune of about 25% lower price compared to having the machine assembled by a vendor, but that's not exactly big bucks, few hundred once every couple of years.

but I did get to choose my own parts in configurations that are not normally available in vendor packages
