In that scenario I think Texas becomes a global petro-state super power and we all have to live in it's shadow. I'd try to find the weirdest, most cosmopolitan corner of Texas I could. NYC currently.

Disagree re: Texas. The only truly self sufficient and democratic Petro-State today is Norway. My guess is that Texas would slide deep into authoritarianism due to inequality within a generation. Massive brain drain to more liberal states.

are you suggesting that simply being a petrostate leads to authoritarianism? I can think of very good historical and geopolitical reasons why so many petrostates are tyrannical shitholes.
