Whats good about unionizing college admins and journos? Doesn't obviously lower status

do unions work for intellectual labor professions? collective bargaining, to a large degree, depends on the fungibility of workers doesn't it? (I know what we all think of the intellect of journos and admins, just work with me here)

there isn't a lawyer's union or a doctor's union or a programmer's union and there are big compensation differences between individuals in these professions but that's not perceived as a problem

I understand that the incipient Marxism that has infected a lot of lefties recently is driving them towards wanting to unionize but it seems like a domain mismatch. they simply AREN'T the same kind of workers that Marx was addressing in Das Kap.

they've probably read it more thoroughly than I have but it's an open question as to whether or not they understand it in practical terms or just latch onto it as a type of catechism

i think they just latch on to it and are vaguely pro union and far leftist seems like enough ingredients for it to be possible i dunno

it might be possible. skilled professions like these are suppose to operate with a _guild_ which is a very different type of organization than a union.

a guild system would allow them to operate as free agents that still had enough coordination across locales to maintain standards and also provide economic aid for things like insurance and continuing education. but I get the feeling they're really just trying to LARP Marxism.
