i'm just looking for the kind of anime that makes you go, "what the fuck is that, Nietzsche? shut the fuck up"

really? i thought the characters were all pretty compelling and the conceit of the plot well utilized. what's your beef with it?
-
tired cliches. it feels like an overly intellectualized version of Bleach.
-
really? i didn't think it was that cliche. the characters were fairly archetypal i guess but i thought they were played off each other well and sufficiently distinguished fromthe standard. what specifically did you have in mind?

if you're talking about the command spells and the noble phantasms, etc. sure, that stuff can be kinda stilted.
-
as per our conversation the other day, it's not the stilted/cheesy stuff that I have a problem with. I enjoy that kind of stuff (sometimes). it's that I felt like it was a graft that didn't take. the trunk was just shonen garbage and the grafted branch was something smart.

you mean you feel like urobuchi's style didn't mesh well with fate? because i am definitely more a fan of him than the ip. idk, i thought the long scenes of dialogue intercut with impressive action sequences, all character driven, were pretty good? that's basically his signature.

I could lie and say I totally referenced Aldnoah knowing that it had the same writer but that was an accident. My subconscious knew all along that I'm just horny for mecha and don't have a good excuse. Psycho Pass was great and Madoka is in my top 5 though.

Psycho Pass season 1 was ace and I'm also a Madoka fan. Dunno what happened with Psycho Pass s2 tho, felt like they were really spinning their wheels. He's one of the few directors in anime I follow, the other being Masaaki Yuasa.
