Yeah part of why I bring it up is to talk about the current state of politics. But I think it also goes back. I think Trump has understood this brand of performance art for decades. Also – SG's former PM Lee Kuan Yew once made the case that US Politics has always been like this

politics of the spectacle is a major theme in U.S. history, for sure. Kennedy (television), FDR (radio), and Lincoln (mass audience debate) were all innovators in media spectacle.
