What does it take to learn a new conceptual primitive?

my gut feeling is that syntheses can become primitives over time, if you use them without decomposing into parts or else gain some insight into its "form"

abstraction seems to require comparison between several different instances and then detecting a pattern. in terms of conceptual primitives tho, idk: some element of luck seems involved in conjuring up the "correct" primitive given an experience
-
what is the distinction between concept and recognized pattern? I think there is one but I don't know how to say it. correct primitive means, a true one? how can we distinguish incorrect conceptual primitives from mistaken ones?
-
concept vs pattern? I think the difference is that concepts are specific instances of idea patterns (vs purely sensory patterns) Re: "correct", I think I misread. Better answer is that your "conceptual toolkit" allows you to find (or not) a concept within a concrete experience.
