yeah that's part of it - not that it's just one or the other tho. also it's not just rap. the imagery of most popular music videos is glitzy, glamorous, evoking a sense of a lot of money having been spent, implying money is meant to be spent on shiny, fancy things

K-pop and J-pop are conspicuous about this too (in terms of lyrical content). A lot of other pop does the messaging implicitly with imagery and style rather than explicitly with lyrical content. I think it's often very deliberate/malicious.
