New @slatestarcodex piece summarized:
"If you're not a liberal at 20, you have no heart.
If you're not a conservative at 30, you have no brain."https://slatestarcodex.com/2017/11/07/does-age-bring-wisdom/ …

my takeaway was that this was the key line "Finally the idea of “low-status” and “bad and wrong” have merged so fully in my mind that the idea seems terrible and ridiculous to me, and I only remember it’s true if I force myself to explicitly consider the question"

which makes me wonder just how badly Scott wants to keep having his pieces show up in Vox

Heh. My theory is that he's gained a truer understanding of how others' minds work. Part of growing is realizing others have fundamentally different experiences (see: different worlds essay). This necessitates a change in tactics if you (get old and still) want to change society.

Yes, exactly that. I've come around to the same thing through a similar process. It's good that Scott is sufficiently self-conscious of this to not forget that truth and social acceptance are distinct, and that socially accepted truth is a small subset of truth.

I disagree here, though, in that I think socially accepted truth is Most of truth, and Scott is trying to shift socially accepted truth toward what his belief system (scientific skepticism) deems correct. See: postmodernism, power structures, etc.

meh, semantic arguments not worth going deep on. If you ammend your statement to "socially accepted truth is most of truth that matters for political reasons" we're in accord.
