there's no occasion too serious that it doesn't move them to produce a half-baked ideological apologia for a policy recommendation that benefits themselves (or those that they are ideologically loyal to). reality doesn't factor in. they don't know what reality is.

I 100% could not disagree more. A blogpost is first and foremost an exercise in thought and meaning-making by the writer. A novel crisis is exactly the sort of time where people need to think and write more, even it's bad, to start getting a grip on the situation.
