Finding this to be a very useful discussion. Sam Harris seems outmatched here (too much time in the IDW echo chamber), but kudos to him for having @rtraister on his podcast.https://twitter.com/SamHarrisOrg/status/1059499902323970048 …

Perhaps. But I think it is also the case that IDW types vastly under value the role of power relationships based on these categories. It's like they want to argue from a blank slate and first principles, without much regard for historical context or structural explanations
-
who does? Harris? sometimes, though he is not "blank slatist" in the cognitive developmental sense of the term. He does usually take the individualist perspective on issues though.
-
Yes, Sam Harris is who I mostly have in mind. His debate with Ezra Klein was emblematic of this for me.
-
Ezra Klein is literally a professional propagandist. Harris' main mistake was talking to him at all. Dude is a bad actor.
-
Completely disagree.
-
why? everything that Klein produces is vicious, deceitful agitprop.
-
This is just completely untrue. Have you listened to his podcast? Most of it is inquisitive and a good faith investigation into complex issues. But he also has a point of view, which might be what you are reacting against. But everybody has a point of view.
-
have you read the majority of content on the website he founded and is EiC for? it's propaganda.

the second aspect was her unwillingness to concede that, yes, actually, quite a lot of excessive vitriol, moral panicking, and unjust treatment of innocent people has occurred as part of the extended social reaction.
-
Yes, the mob mentality (above and beyond legitimate outrage) is something I think she didn't take seriously enough.
