The great consensus position that I think people fail to see is that you can be all in favor of e.g. gay people, transgender people, furries, whatever doing their thing, yet not actually care all that much, since it's not a huge national issue.

media's allowed to talk about it cuz it doesn't matter to actual power centers in this country. guess what happens to media that tries to talk about e.g. military budget?

My guess would be that they get shut down, but not because of power brokers as such, rather, people just find the issue boring because there isn't a pre-scripted narrative about oppression or whatever available.

there's some of that. there's also actual self-imposed blacklisting in the industry, and the soft "cut off from sources" blacklisting that establishment imposes on media that becomes adversarial about the wrong thing.

and no, not outright shut down, because that's not how we do things here. rather, marginalized. pushed to the fringes. you can still reach your mailing list of a couple thousand subscribers. you do get cut off from mass distribution though.
