You can see it in real life by going to virtually anywhere with a heavy agriculture-based community in the States.

Move them into the town, raise the price of their production until it becomes impractical. Humans are basically an agricultural product too. Cities have never produced enough of them to meet the need. We would starve.

Your metrics are off; I am absolutely in favor of abolishing rural communities and all non-optimized agriculture entirely

I think we haven't achieved efficient vertical and/or hydroponics farming for many non-lettuce/herb products so since I want to eat things other than salad I am in favor of Let's Wait A Bit. We HAVE achieved automated soil-based barley farming, though.

thinking about it, "a small outlay of land for barley, vertical farms for lettuce, and weird vats for meat" makes more of a reasonable diet for the cyberpunk urban class than any dared to hope. hello future, you can still get drunk on real beer and eat a mostly-real salad.
