in my opinion, there are often many factors that contribute to making good neighbors, and good hedges are sometimes a highly ranked factor, but not necessarily, and not always, maybe.

I‘ve always thought that, like high metaphorical hedges themselves, one of the best ways long tweets prevent misunderstanding and conflict is by keeping us from reading/making eye contact. One cannot be angry at a tweet or a neighbor one has not truly perceived. In my opinion.

This is also why I wear blinders and noise canceling headphones when I’m driving. Every time I take them off, I find out people to my sides and behind me are honking and flipping me off. But directly in front of me, everything’s OK

i think it's a bit more subtle – at 140 there's no space for hedges, so we could generally assume they were left out for space constraints. now I think, relative to the past (lmao doing it now) we generally assume people who don't hedge are either lazy or stupid
