In today's “The Heck You Say” moment, on the last day of his presidency, Barack Obama pardoned Steve Rubell of his conviction for tax evasion. Rubell was the co-founder of Studio 54. (He was played by Mike Meyers in the move “54”.)
does a pardon have any legal meaning if its done posthumously? i mean, why bother? seems of limited symbolic value.

I could probably come up with some bizarre scenario where it does, but especially after 30 plus years and the death of the pardoned, in practical terms I’d say *legally* it’s irrelevant. I do not practice crim law: discount accordingly.
