i've seen good arguments both for keeping the senate and for abolishing (or significantly reforming) the senate. in the present circumstances urbanization and geographical sorting of ideologies has really created a problem with representative democracy.
one of these things is not like the others though. equal representation of states in the senate is not a civil liberty, it's just an opinion on how to distribute power geographically.
