in any given (reasonably balanced) metagame environment there is something out there that absolutely preys upon your favored strategy. if you have "the fear" you will play a different strategy to avoid it, or you'll cripple the effective of your own strategy seeking resilience.

it's a bad idea. you shouldn't do that. trading your large advantages for smaller disadvantages is a bad hedge in a competitive metagame. the correct strategy is to ignore your metagame predator, take the L if it finds you, and punish everyone who isn't your predator.

this creates the desired metagame equilibrium of allowing your predator to get eliminated by its own natural predators instead of by yourself. it's a gamble, if you run into your predator you lose, but if you dodge it you're positioning is great.

just make sure you choose the strategy that has a predator that is susceptible to something you crush. if your advantage over your predator's predator isn't large enough the expected value of your metagame gamble won't make it to positive.
