Man on subway today spends entire ride with his phone held up to his face, non-stop talking into it, mostly angry mutterings about a recent stay at a hospital. This is an underground train for reference. There is data/internet connection at the platforms but not voice.

man keeps talking through tunnels, no signs of redialing after lost connection or anything like that. i'm 99.9% sure there was nobody on the other end. he was talking to dead air. this guy was so perturbed and so ego-tunneled that he didn't stop talking for even one moment.

never bothered checking if anyone on the other end was still listening to him. never occurred to him that the line went dead. i suppose it also didn't cross his mind that his grievances were equally pointless and just his own ego fucking with him.

in both cases You're Not Wrong i just think it's a framing that doesn't provide any new or useful ways of thinking about things

I disagree. It would have been better for the man if he had stopped to listen. If he had contained his chattering ego and its grievances for just a few seconds and taken in the silence.
