It’s usually ‘rapeseed’ in Britain. canola is a gm strain I think, created in Canada. Canola is more common in US. British fields are increasingly rotated with rapeseed.

i'm unoffended by any variety of 'splaining and enjoy learning bits of trivia regardless. yes, Canola is a specific variety of Rapeseed but that isn't why they changed the name for marketing in the U.S.

Of course - it’s because natural rapeseed oil is very high in acid and unpalatable and the Canola cultivars have about 3% of that acid content and are still noticably different to the tounge
