let me tell you about my city: the reason it's called "the city that never sleeps" is because the noise pollution is so severe everyone is awakened under hostile conditions 3 or 4 times a night.

Damn. Tbh it sounds like my life in London but in my case it would be fixed if I just lived on a quieter street (thank god these exist)

well I've not visited either of those cities but I'm not surprised. the problem is the culture itself, it's compounded by the population density but that isn't the root cause. less pathological cultures can operate at high density without these issues.

New York is a schizophrenic overmind because of this. We manage to get by somehow (with problems) but the lack of coherence of culture and purpose is vivid.
