They might believe that they're making a noble sacrifice, taking on the emotional burden via empathy for others that they imagine they are helping with their shouting. I don't know why they imagine they're helping. There's really no evidence that they're helping.

I think I'm right about the story they tell themselves to justify their self-exhausting behavior. I might be wrong though. Just wanna throw out some healthy self-doubt while I'm analyzing others. I don't actually know for certain what they're thinking.

I think there's a real dissonance between the story they tell themselves about why they do what they do and the reality of why they do what they do. I think the reality is that they do it for social reward. I think they get high on people telling them they're doing something good

it's a really dangerous situation though. setting yourself up to feel rewarded by others telling you you're spinning a narrative that conforms to their expectations. that's a recipe for self-deception. a technicolor dreamcoat of lies.
