God I’m going to be so fucking pissed off if I die in a war that kills half the world because some dumbasses take it into their heads that global fucking warming is an x risk worth trying to conquer the world over

I have no idea how the fuck someone decides that a thing that has never happened in 4 billion years is “mathematically” more likely than something that has happened multiple times in the last billion

The Yellowstone caldera has erupted three times in like two million years and people are freaking out that a little carbon in the atmosphere is going to kill all life on earth

it's weird to see people wringing their hands over the unrealistically exaggerated version of that concern when the totally realistic version of it (2-4 degrees C oceanic warming, and all the resulting biome shifts) is pretty much a sure thing and has serious consequences.

none of which are X risks. just environmental degradation on a large enough scale that things get really shitty and land/resource wars (especially over fresh water supplies and arable land) starts to become dominant geopolitical concerns.

Global warming will increase the amount of fresh water and arable land.

yes, but not in places where people currently live or farm. redevelopment and mass migrations is gonna happen. that could be messy.
