What on earth can be done to make the public trust journalists more? How about flipping the question: What can journalists do to be more trustworthy? I have a suggestion. Whenever possible, publish full audio, video, or text of interviews. (Redact any off-the-record portions.)

I'm not saying they shouldn't use anonymous sources. I'm saying they shouldn't publish the story until they have multiple confirmations including non-anonymous sources.

or at minimum that the burden of evidence for using an anonymous source needs to be VERY VERY HIGH, like Pentagon Papers high, i.e. documents and everything backing it up.
